Well, it's time for new tires.
I want to put wider tires in the back to have some kind of staggered look.
Right now I have 225/45/17 all around.
How wide I can go in the rear with these wheels?
TIA

A 245 would work but it sure wouldn't look good with all the sidewall bulge. Stick to a 235/45 on the next tires.

I was thinking 235/40/17 with some spacers

Doing a 235/40 will make the sidewall shorter than the OEM one and it will also create an illusion that your car is higher than it actually is, because you will have more fender gap. Run a 235/40 if you want to throw some huge spacers on and plan on slamming it hard
